Hildegard Knef was born on December 28th, 1925 in the South German city of Ulm.

She died, aged 76, on February 1st, 2002 in Berlin.

Her resting-place is at Waldfriedhof, Berlin-Zehlendorf.

She was a succesful artist as singer, movie actress/stage actress and as a writer.

Knef the singer released 23 original albums (incl. 4 live ones)

featuring 320 different songs – and wrote 130 lyrics herself.

Knef the movie actress appeared in 49 feature films,

19 of which were non-German productions,

produced in the US , in the UK , France , Italy , Austria , Spain .

Knef the stage actress appeared in 15 plays;

her role as Ninotchka in Cole Porter’s “Silk Stockings” is considered her greatest triumph –

as she became the first German to succeed on Broadway (1955/56).

The year 1999 was a special one in her life, as…

a) her last feature film hit the screens (Eine fast perfekte Hochzeit),

b) her last album was released (17 Millimeter),

and

c) she gave her last TV appearance, singing Zum Schluss...

on the German programme Herman & Tietjen.

Hildegard Knef was married three times:

1. Kurt Hirsch, 1947 – 1952; 2. David Cameron, 1962 – 1976; 3. Paul von Schell, 1977 – 2002 (her death)

Her only child is Christina Antonia; she was born on 16 May 1968, in Munich, Germany;

her father is her second husband, David Cameron.
